The International Cooperation Bureau of the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) held the sixth national training session for foreign-related legal professionals from June 10 to 13 at the SPP's Beidaihe Procuratorial Technical Support Center.

On June 10 and 11, trainees of the program underwent two rounds of English translation tests. Sixteen of them from Shanghai municipality and Fujian, Jiangsu, and Zhejiang provinces advanced to the third round of the oral English test. The group features diversified backgrounds, with some having graduated from well-known domestic law schools, and some having studied at renowned overseas universities. Among them were young prosecutors born after the year 2000, and an experienced deputy chief prosecutor from a grassroots procuratorate, as well as a veteran prosecutor with 20 years of work experience at a provincial-level procuratorate. All of them share the common trait of dual proficiency in English and law.
Experts put questions to the participants of the oral English test on June 12.
On the morning of June 12, the oral English test commenced. The 16 participants were given the speech topics 10 minutes in advance for brief preparation. They were required not only to make a speech on the topics, but also to take questions from the examiners onsite.
Regarding the design of the exam, the question setter from the International Cooperation Bureau explained: "The distinctive feature of this test is its practical orientation. Foreign-related legal work requires a strong political and professional acumen. It demands that foreign-related legal professionals be well-versed in international treaties, conventions, foreign legal systems and so forth, while also emphasizing practical training and accumulating experience."
"We have navigated through the tests of English listening, speaking, reading and writing, broadening our horizons and passing the test. As young prosecutors, we will anchor ourselves in our respective positions in the future, persist in gaining legal knowledge and language learning, and grow through more practical experience," said Wang Zheng, a trainee and Class-II Assistant Prosecutor of the Procuratorial Department of Economic Crime at the Shanghai Municipal People's Procuratorate.
The head of the SPP's International Cooperation Bureau noted that strengthening the development of foreign-related legal professionals is an urgent requirement for implementing the decisions and plans of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, serving the country's high-level opening-up, and enhancing the capabilities of procuratorial organs in matters related to foreign-related rule of law. Language is a vehicle for law, culture, and the economy, and only with legal foreign language proficiency can we better engage in international judicial exchanges and cooperation, better tell the story of China's rule of law, and contribute to enhancing the international influence and discourse power of China's judiciary.
Sixteen participants of the training program are included in the national talent pool of foreign-related rule of law of procuratorial organs after three rounds of exams.
At the end of the training program, the 16 participants were included in the national talent pool of foreign-related rule of law of nationwide procuratorial organs.
