- In October 2014, the Fourth Plenary Session of the 18th CPC Central Committee approved the Decision on Several Major Issues Concerning the Comprehensive Advancement of the Rule of Law, and proposed to explore the establishment of the system of public interest litigation by procuratorial organs.
- In July 2015, the 15th meeting of the Standing Committee of the 12th National People's Congress (NPC) made the Decision on Authorizing the Supreme People's Procuratorate to Carry Out Pilot Work on Public Interest Litigation in Certain Regions.
- In July 2017, the Civil Procedure Law of the People's Republic of China and Administrative Procedure Law of the People's Republic of China , amended during the 28th meeting of the 12th NPC Standing Committee, were officially implemented, establishing a system for procuratorial organs to initiate public interest litigation.
- In October 2019, the Fourth Plenary Session of the 19th CPC Central Committee clarified the need to "expand the scope of public interest litigation cases" and "improve the system for public interest litigation concerning the ecological environment".
- In March 2018, the Supreme People's Court and the Supreme People's Procuratorate issued the Interpretation on Several Issues Concerning the Application of Laws in Handling Prosecutorial Public Interest Litigation Cases.
- In September 2017, President Xi Jinping pointed out in a congratulatory letter to the 22nd Annual Conference of the International Association of Prosecutors that China's procuratorial organs are an important force in safeguarding national and public interests.
- In January 2021, the CPC Central Committee issued the Plan on Developing the Rule of Law in China (2020-2025), which explicitly calls for "expanding the scope of public interest litigation cases and improving the legal system for public interest litigation".
- In June 2021, the CPC Central Committee issued the Opinions on Strengthening the Legal Supervision Work of Procuratorial Organs in the New Era, which clearly stated the need to "actively and steadily promote prosecutorial public interest litigation".
- In December 2021, during the 35th collective study session of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, the need to "improve the public interest litigation system" was emphasized.
- In September 2023, the Legislative Symposium on Prosecutorial Public Interest Litigation, jointly organized by the China Law Society, the Supervision and Judicial Committee of the NPC, the Supreme People's Court and the Supreme People's Procuratorate, was held in Beijing.
- In October 2022, the report to the 20th CPC National Congress highlighted the need to "improve the public interest litigation system".

SPECIAL ACTIVITIES
- In August 2018, the Supreme People's Procuratorate launched a special campaign, mobilizing procuratorial organs nationwide to participate in supervisory activities under the theme "public interest litigation to ensure the safety of food and beverages for all households".
- In December 2018, the Supreme People's Procuratorate and the water resources authorities launched a special action under the theme "jointly protecting the environment of the Yellow River".
- In February 2019, the Supreme People's Procuratorate deployed procuratorial organs in 11 coastal provincial-level regions to carry out a special supervision under the theme "public interest litigation to safeguard the marine environment".
- In April 2019, the Supreme People's Procuratorate deployed procuratorial organs across the country to conduct a three-month special action under the theme "review of public interest litigation cases".

The Supreme People's Procuratorate stressed the need to rectify the damaged ecological environment of the Wanfeng Lake watershed through a public interest litigation case, marking the first direct handling of a public interest litigation case by the SPP, The picture shows four level prosecutors jointly inspecting the current water quality of the lake after the rectification.

On March 25, 2021, under the theme of "Protecting sea turtles, guarding the ocean together", the second release activity of sea turtles involved in public interest litigation cases was carried out in Yongxing Island, Sansha city, Hainan. A total of 160 sea turtles were released back into the sea.

On April 8, 2021, the Supreme People's Procuratorate decided to directly file a case and assigned prosecutors from four provinces to assist local governments in addressing such issues as boundary pollution, coal mine pollution, and ship and port pollution in Nansi Lake.
