A seminar on theoretical research concerning civil procuratorial research bases of the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) was held at Shanghai Jiao Tong University on Sept 29.

Shi Weizhong, Deputy Prosecutor General of the SPP, attended the seminar and delivered a speech. He urged procuratorial organs and law schools to better leverage the role of the research bases to realize in-depth integration of theoretical and practical strengths and jointly promote the steady and sound development of theoretical research and practice of civil procuratorial work in the new era.

Shi pointed out that in-depth research should be grounded in civil procuratorial supervision practices and focus on major theoretical and practical issues concerning the civil procuratorial system and the development of civil procuratorial work.

He emphasized the need to focus on the basic theories of civil procuratorial work and practical difficulties encountered in its development, produce high-quality research outcomes, provide robust theoretical support, and facilitate curriculum development and talent cultivation for civil procuratorial work.

He called for advancing high-quality development of the research bases, improving mechanisms for procuratorate-university cooperation, coordination across different organizations, as well as management and assessment, and effectively leveraging the bases' role as high-end think tanks.

Efforts should be made to build an integrated research framework featuring coordinated interaction, resource sharing, and complementary strengths among the research bases, and to deepen interdisciplinary research and mutual learning, so as to jointly enhance the bases' authority and influence, Shi added.

The seminar was attended by heads of relevant SPP departments and the Shanghai Municipal People's Procuratorate, heads of the SPP's civil procuratorial research bases, as well as a number of experts and scholars.
