On Sept 24, the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) released five typical procuratorial public interest litigation cases for this year's Food Safety Publicity Week. These cases are representative examples of the kind handled by procuratorial organs nationwide in advancing the campaign on safeguarding food and drug safety through public interest litigation supervision. They mark new progress in whole-chain supervision, comprehensive accountability and society-wide coordination, providing strong support for deepening special supervision and improving long-term mechanisms.
The released cases focus on food safety issues of greatest public concern and address the public's most immediate and practical needs. Supervision covers key stages from farmland to dining tables, from breeding to harmless disposal, and from production and processing to terminal sales.
They include administrative public interest litigation cases urging administrative organs to perform their duties in accordance with the law and close regulatory gaps, as well as civil public interest litigation cases seeking to hold those who harm the public interest accountable. The release demonstrates procuratorial organs' commitment to handling every case with high quality and efficiency in the field of food and drug safety.
The cases emphasize whole-chain governance, ensuring comprehensive oversight over the entire food and drug process, including planting and breeding, and the sale and disposal of problematic products.
The head of the SPP's Public Interest Litigation Procuratorial Department said that procuratorial organs will focus on deepening the special campaign on safeguarding food and drug safety through public interest litigation supervision, closely monitor emerging situations and problems in food and drug safety, and ensure a shift from effectively resolving individual cases to addressing underlying problems through systemic governance. These efforts aim to better safeguard food and drug safety through high-quality and efficient performance of public interest litigation procuratorial duties.
