The Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) held its 52nd open-day event on Sept 23 under the theme "Strengthening Intellectual Property Procuratorial Protection to Serve National Innovation-driven Development". Shi Weizhong, Deputy Prosecutor General of the SPP, attended the event and delivered a welcome speech.

In his speech, Shi pointed out that procuratorial organs have continuously intensified judicial protection of intellectual property rights (IPR) in recent years. They have punished various types of IPR infringement crimes in accordance with the law, strengthened procuratorial supervision over civil, administrative, and public interest litigation involving IPR, and carried out special oversight campaigns targeting malicious litigation, and illegal cross-jurisdictional and profit-driven law enforcement and judicial practices, he said.

Shi emphasized that procuratorial organs have remained committed to handling every IPR case with high quality and efficiency, contributing to fostering a world-class business environment that is market-oriented, law-based and internationalized, and serving high-quality economic and social development.

From 2023 to 2025, procuratorial organs nationwide accepted and reviewed 37,000 individuals for approval of arrest and 89,000 individuals for prosecution in IPR infringement crime cases, and handled more than 11,000 IPR-related civil, administrative, and public interest litigation cases.

Shi stressed that on the new journey in the new era, IPR procuratorial work carries greater responsibilities. This requires continuous efforts to deepen cooperation and coordination in law enforcement and judicial work, as well as supervision and support from all sectors of society.

He added that in the next phase, procuratorial organs will intensify cooperation with relevant authorities and further advance comprehensive performance of IPR procuratorial functions in order to continuously optimize the innovation and business environment and better serve national innovation-driven development.

Participants of the event included six deputies to the National People's Congress and members of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference from provincial-level regions including Beijing, Jiangxi and Qinghai, experts and scholars in the IPR field, heads of relevant departments of the Supreme People's Court, the Ministry of Public Security, the State Administration for Market Regulation, the China National Intellectual Property Administration and the National Copyright Administration, as well as more than 50 teachers and students from various universities in Beijing.

During the event, six prosecutors shared stories of handling IPR procuratorial cases, showcasing their work in protecting trade secrets, safeguarding copyright order, and defending trademark rights and interests. The attendees also visited the People's Procuratorate Museum and the SPP's Procuratorial Technology Information Research Center.
