The Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) released 10 typical cases of procuratorial public interest litigation on Sept 19, the 26th National Defense Education Day. The release aims to further raise the public’s awareness of national defense and the rule of law.

The released cases feature four distinctive highlights.

First, the cases underscore strengthened civilian‑military procuratorial collaboration. By focusing on the functions of public interest litigation procuratorial work, local procuratorates and military procuratorates made full use of their collaborative strengths in key stages of case handling, including the transfer of leads, investigation and evidence collection, and rectification‑effect assessment. This collaborative approach helped address difficulties in handling military‑related cases such as identifying leads, collecting evidence, and assessing rectification outcomes, and built synergy for safeguarding public interests related to national defense.

Second, the release demonstrates efforts to balance national defense security with people’s livelihood needs. Procuratorial organs earnestly upheld the principle of "handling every case with high quality and efficiency," ensuring that fairness and justice are achieved through the integration of law, reason, and empathy.

Third, the release highlights effective protection of the rights and interests of military personnel. Through public interest litigation, procuratorates strengthened the protection of the status, rights and interests of military personnel, and worked to resolve bottlenecks and difficulties such as the superficial and inadequate implementation of preferential policies for service members.

Fourth, the cases showcase the supporting role of "Yixin Weigong" ("Public Interest from the Heart") volunteers and social forces in expanding the reach of national defense education.

According to the head of the SPP's Public Interest Litigation Procuratorial Department, procuratorial organs will continue to strengthen public interest litigation efforts to protect national defense interests and the rights and interests of military personnel, and continuously improve the civilian‑military procuratorial collaboration mechanism. Through high‑quality and efficient duty performance in this field, procuratorates will build a solid rule‑of‑law defense line for safeguarding national defense interests and contribute to the modernization of national defense and the armed forces.
