A preview screening of Heavy Treasure, a television drama centered on legal themes, was held in Beijing on Aug 6. The event was guided by the Press Office of the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP), the Information Department of the Supreme People's Court (SPC), and the Beijing Municipal Radio and Television Bureau, and was hosted by the streaming platform iQIYI.
Tong Jianming, First Deputy Prosecutor General of the SPP, attended the event and delivered a speech.
Set against the historical backdrop of China's exploration and development of the rule of law from 1979 to 1997, the drama tells the story of how the first generation of law graduates witnessed and contributed to that development since the start of reform and opening-up, Tong said. He added that the drama holds great significance in promoting the spirit of the rule of law and building public consensus around it.
Centering on five law graduates who pursue careers in courts, procuratorates, and other areas of the legal profession, the drama offers a panoramic, multifaceted portrayal of the rule-of-law landscape of the country in the 1980s and 1990s. It also vividly captures the evolution of China's judicial philosophies during that period.
Tong urged procuratorial organs to maintain close coordination with relevant parties to produce more high-quality cultural works with profound intellectual insight, people-centered philosophy, solid practical grounding, and rigorous legal orientation. He called for vivid storytelling about China's rule-of-law progress and procuratorial work in the new era, and for leveraging procuratorial culture to help build a higher-level law-based China.
The screening was attended by relevant officials from the SPP, the SPC, the China Media Group, and the Publicity Department of the Chongqing Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China, legal scholars, as well as representatives of the creative team behind Heavy Treasure.
