Shi Weizhong, Deputy Prosecutor General of the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) of China, met with a delegation led by Wang Binying, Deputy Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), in Beijing on July 23.
On behalf of the SPP, Shi extended a warm welcome to Wang and her delegation. He noted that the WIPO has long maintained sound communication and cooperation with Chinese judicial authorities, providing strong support for enhancing the quality and efficiency of China's procuratorial work on intellectual property rights (IPR).
Shi gave a brief overview of the development of China's IPR-related procuratorial work, noting that China has always attached great importance to IPR protection. The SPP has set up a dedicated Intellectual Property Procuratorial Department to coordinate criminal, civil, administrative and public interest litigation procuratorial work involving IPR, while continuously advancing the professional development of IPR procuratorial teams nationwide, he noted.
Shi said that in recent years, Chinese procuratorial organs have scored new achievements in lawfully punishing various types of IPR infringement crimes, enhancing the comprehensive performance of IPR procuratorial functions, promoting the development of a comprehensive IPR protection framework, providing equal legal protection for the legitimate rights and interests of both Chinese and foreign rights holders, and strengthening international exchanges and cooperation on IPR protection.
Wang said she hoped to further deepen cooperation with the SPP and expand areas of cooperation to deliver tangible outcomes from relevant projects.
The two sides also exchanged views on specific cooperation matters, which they will jointly and actively advance in the next stage.
Relevant officials from the International Cooperation Bureau and the Intellectual Property Procuratorial Department of the SPP attended the meeting.
