The Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) recently released 10 typical cases on strengthening judicial assistance for vulnerable children. These cases focus on key priorities and challenges, innovative practices and institutional development in judicial assistance practice.
They not only address practical challenges in protecting disadvantaged children, but also demonstrate well-proven practice of procuratorial organs in fulfilling their duties and promoting coordinated governance, offering real-life examples and practical guidance for similar work in the future.
The released cases involve vulnerable children from various backgrounds, targeted and diverse assistance measures, multi-party collaboration, and the integration of case handling with governance.
In terms of assistance recipients, the cases cover major groups of vulnerable children such as orphans, de facto orphans, children suffering physical and mental harm from guardian abuse, and the children of crime victims. Tailored assistance packages have been rolled out to address the urgent needs of these groups, ensuring precise identification and effective support, and a full-chain, long-term assistance system has taken shape.
To overcome bottlenecks in cross-regional assistance, procuratorial organs have partnered with relevant authorities, including civil affairs, education, women's federations, health, public security, and disabled persons' federations.
Together, they have established a regular work mechanism encompassing information sharing, case leads transfers, coordinated assistance, and joint follow-up visits. This has fostered a comprehensive judicial protection and assistance framework led by procuratorial organs, supported by administrative departments, and involving all sectors of society.
An official from the SPP's Accusations and Complaints Procuratorial Department said that procuratorates nationwide have simultaneously screened for judicial assistance leads during the review of arrest and prosecution to minimize delays in providing support. Meanwhile, based on individual cases, procuratorial organs have advanced the refinement of key mechanisms in areas such as the mandatory reporting system and campus safety governance.
