The Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) held its 50th open-day event on May 29 ahead of International Children's Day.

Ying Yong, Secretary of the Party Leadership Group and Prosecutor General of the SPP, attended the event and presented law-related books to student representatives.

Shi Weizhong, Deputy Prosecutor General of the SPP, delivered an address and extended holiday greetings to the children.

In his remarks, Shi said procuratorial work runs through the entire process of judicial protection for minors and plays an important role in protecting minors.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the juvenile prosecution system in China. Over the past four decades, procuratorial organs have continuously strengthened juvenile procuratorial work, promoted the development of specialized juvenile procuratorial bodies, and improved working mechanisms, Shi noted.

By fully performing their procuratorial functions, procuratorial organs  have advanced coordinated efforts in the protection of minors involving families, schools, society, online platforms, governments, and judicial organs. These efforts have contributed to creating a sound rule-of-law environment for minors' healthy growth, he added.

Shi said procuratorial organs would take the 40th anniversary as a new starting point to further strengthen comprehensive judicial protection for minors, and take a zero-tolerance approach to crimes against minors, while ensuring that juvenile offenders are punished in accordance with the law and provided with targeted education and assistance.

Efforts would also be made to handle every case involving minors with high quality and efficiency, so as to better safeguard their lawful rights and interests, he noted.

Shi urged students to abide by the Constitution and laws, actively learn legal knowledge, comply with school rules and regulations and use legal means to safeguard their lawful rights and interests.

Deputies to the National People's Congress, members of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, and experts and scholars were invited to attend the event. More than 50 teachers and students from Beijing No 4 High School and Beijing No 65 High School participated.
