A meeting was held on May 25 in Zhengzhou, Central China’s Henan province, to review the achievement and experience of the special campaign on water ecological protection in the Yellow River Basin. Tasks for the next stage of the campaign were also outlined at the meeting.
The one-year campaign was jointly launched by the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) and the Ministry of Water Resources (MWR) in April 2025. During the campaign, procuratorial organs in nine provincial-level regions along the Yellow River strengthened collaboration with water administrative law enforcement departments and river basin management agencies. Through intensified procuratorial supervision via public interest litigation, they filed 1,220 cases, issued 955 procuratorial recommendations, and initiated prosecution in 44 cases. These efforts have contributed to the continuous improvement of the ecological environment in the Yellow River Basin.
In recent years, under the direct guidance of the SPP and the MWR, the coordination mechanism between water administrative law enforcement and procuratorial public interest litigation has been fully established and steadily improved, helping resolve a number of long-standing and difficult problems.
Procuratorial organs in the nine regions will continue to strengthen the coordination mechanism. Focusing on the weak links in ecological protection in the Yellow River Basin, they will fully perform their public interest litigation functions, and safeguard the bottom line of ecological security through high-quality and efficient case handling, so as to support the comprehensive and law-based protection and governance of the Yellow River.
On the sidelines of the meeting, the SPP and the MWR also held a working meeting on advancing the Yellow River Basin public interest litigation coordination platform, setting clear priorities for the future work.
