The Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) has recently issued a notice to procuratorial organs on further advancing the campaign of "Procuratorial Protection of People's Livelihoods", outlining 16 key tasks in three priority areas.
Building upon the sustained implementation of all tasks outlined in the 2024 work plan for the campaign, the notice defines three priority areas as key sectors, key groups and prominent livelihood issues, to support high-quality social and economic development, protect the rights of certain groups and resolve public concerns.
To achieve these objectives, the notice details an action plan comprising 16 key tasks, including strengthening the handling of civil supervision cases in livelihood-related sectors such as finance and real estate, advancing procuratorial oversight over social security and medical insurance, as well as intensifying the protection of the ecological environment and natural resources.
Other tasks involve continuously promoting law-based governance in cyberspace, safeguarding the healthy growth of minors in accordance with the law, protecting the legitimate rights and interests of women in accordance with the law, deepening the protection of the rights and interests of the elderly and people with disabilities and resolutely upholding the legitimate rights and interests of heroes, martyrs, military personnel and their families.
Further tasks target the law-based protection of food and drug safety, intensifying case handling in workplace safety, strengthening comprehensive governance of issues related to the protection of workers' rights and interests, continuously deepening judicial assistance and enhancing judicial protection for cultural relics and heritage.
The notice also outlines tasks to strengthen procuratorial work supporting the development of agriculture, rural areas and farmers, and to promote the regular, diversified resolution of conflicts and disputes.
The notice urges procuratorates nationwide to carry out coordinated research to effectively address pressing public concerns, and comprehensively apply methods such as supervision and rectification, public hearings, judicial assistance and legal interpretations to handle a number of benchmark livelihood-related cases in accordance with the law.
Furthermore, the notice emphasizes continuously intensifying efforts to improve relevant systems and mechanisms, and proactively extending the work from individual case handling to oversight of similar cases and social governance. Efforts should also be strengthened in summarizing experiences, enhancing publicity and effectively conveying the stories of how procuratorial organs serve the people through case handling.
