The first joint training session on the review and evaluation of criminal evidence wrapped up on March 17 at the Shahe Campus of the National Prosecutors College in Beijing.

The program brought together more than 220 key staff members from the criminal prosecution divisions of procuratorates and criminal trial divisions of courts nationwide.

Designed to address pressing practical needs in case handling, the training focused on major and difficult issues in practice. These included understanding and applying the criminal evidence system, preventing wrongful convictions, excluding illegally obtained evidence and examining key evidential aspects in various types of criminal cases.

During the program, experts from the Supreme People's Court, the Supreme People's Procuratorate, the Jurisprudence Institute of Law of the China Law Society, and local judicial institutions, as well as academics from universities including Tsinghua University and East China University of Political Science and Law, were invited to deliver lectures. Through case-based studies, thematic discussions, practical training, and on-site instruction, the training helped enhance the participants' ability to review and evaluate evidence in complex cases.

This 10-day training program helped further build consensus among key personnel from the criminal divisions of procuratorates and courts on concepts, standards and criteria regarding evidence review and evaluation. It also contributed to a systemic improvement in the quality and efficiency of judicial case handling.
