On Jan 28, the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) held a symposium on procuratorial news publicity, during which the top 10 procuratorial news and top 10 legal supervision cases of 2025 were selected.
Ying Yong, Prosecutor General of the SPP, met with officials from relevant departments and media representatives attending the meeting. Tong Jianming, First Deputy Prosecutor General of the SPP, presided over the symposium.
At the meeting, Ying briefed participants on the progress in procuratorial work in 2025 and provided in-depth explanations on key issues of public concern. He noted that over the past year, as comprehensive law-based governance continued to advance, procuratorial work achieved remarkable progress.
He acknowledged the collaboration between media outlets and procuratorial organs in effectively promoting the spirit of socialist rule of law, building societal consensus on the rule of law, and creating a positive public opinion environment for the high-quality development of procuratorial work through professional insights, authoritative voices, vivid case studies and in-depth reporting.
Emphasizing the growing responsibilities of procuratorial organs in supporting the country's initiatives for advancing reform and development and maintaining stability in the new year, Ying urged media outlets to tap into the "rich mines" of procuratorial news by enhancing publicity, interpretation, and explanation efforts. This, he added, would help procuratorial organs better fulfill their duties.
Ying pledged that procuratorial organs will strengthen interaction and communication with media outlets, proactively accept oversight from all sectors, including public opinion supervision, enhance and standardize transparency in their work, actively respond to public concerns, and address legal issues of broad social interest, so as to make fairness and justice more tangible, visible and accessible to the people.
He also called on media outlets to further consolidate the synergy between legal supervision and public opinion supervision, contributing to the building of a peaceful China that is governed by the rule of law at a higher level.
Addressing the symposium, Tong underscored the importance of strengthening collaboration between procuratorates and media outlets to continuously promote the integration and mutual reinforcement of high-quality case handling and high-level publicity, which will help procuratorates better uphold social fairness and justice through high-quality and efficient legal supervision.
He called for continuously improving regular communication and exchange mechanisms between the two sides, facilitating broader dissemination of high-quality procuratorial news, and bringing more procuratorial stories closer to the public. Procuratorial organs should take a more proactive role in providing the media with richer and higher-quality firsthand procuratorial information, so the two sides can jointly interpret judicial concepts and the spirit of the rule of law embodied in procuratorates' duty performance and case handling, he added.
Furthermore, Tong urged a more proactive approach to accepting media supervision, enhancing transparency in procuratorial work, and addressing public concerns regarding the progress of key procuratorial initiatives and the handling of high-profile cases, in a bid to transform public opinion supervision into a driving force for improving procuratorial work.
The symposium was attended by leading officials from relevant departments, including the Press Bureau of the General Office of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, the Press Bureau of the General Office of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, and the Publicity and Education Bureau of the Commission for Political and Legal Affairs of the Communist Party of China Central Central Committee.
Also present were representatives from leading media organizations such as People's Daily, Xinhua News Agency, China Media Group, Guangming Daily, Economic Daily, China Daily, Workers' Daily, China Youth Daily, China Women's News, Legal Daily, the People's Court News and Media Agency, and the Ministry of Public Security News Media Center, as well as those from major news websites including people.com.cn and xinhuanet.com, and social media platforms such as Weibo and Kuaishou.
The heads of the SPP's General Office, Political Department and Press Office, as well as Procuratorate Daily, were also in attendance.
