A seminar themed "Strengthening Theoretical Research and Practical Capability in Foreign-Related Procuratorial Work" was held in Beijing on Dec 21.

Hosted by the foreign-related legal research bases of the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) at the Institute of International Law and the Institute of Law of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, the event focused on key and challenging issues in foreign-related procuratorial work. It aimed to leverage the collaborative strengths between academic institutions and procuratorial organs, strengthen the cultivation of foreign-related procuratorial professionals and further enhance overall capability in this field.

Shi Weizhong, a permanent member at the deputy-ministerial level of the SPP's Procuratorial Committee, addressed the seminar.

Shi emphasized the significance of coordinating the country's law-based governance and foreign-related rule of law. He called for continuous deepening of collaborative mechanisms between the procuratorates, academia, and research institutions, urging tapping into the research bases as "think tanks" and advisory platforms to enhance procuratorial organs' capability to identify, respond to and seek development through changes.

He also stressed the need to coordinate efforts to establish the research bases as the leading platforms and pioneers in foreign-related legal studies for procuratorial organs.

Shi also underscored the importance of strengthening coordination in the cultivation of foreign-related procuratorial talent and the building of an independent knowledge system for Chinese procuratorial science.

The seminar was attended by the heads of the SPP's Law and Policy Research Office, International Cooperation Bureau, and Procuratorial Theory Research Institute, along with over 50 scholars and experts in foreign-related legal fields from universities including China University of Political Science and Law, Wuhan University, Xi'an Jiaotong University, Yunnan University, Northwest University of Political Science and Law, University of International Business and Economics, and Guangdong University of Foreign Studies.
