Ying Yong, Chief Grand Prosecutor and Prosecutor General of the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) of China, met with Alina Montesino Li, Deputy Attorney General of Cuba, who was leading a delegation to China for a study program, in Beijing on Nov 26.
Ying extended a warm welcome to Montesino and her delegation, noting that China and Cuba are good friends, comrades and brothers. He said that since the establishment of diplomatic relations 65 years ago, China-Cuba relations have continued to deepen, becoming a model of solidarity and cooperation between socialist countries as well as a model of sincere mutual assistance among developing countries.
Ying mentioned that not long ago, President Xi Jinping met with Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel, who came to China to attend the commemorations for the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. During their meeting, the two leaders reached important consensus on building a closer China-Cuba community with a shared future, he added.
Ying highlighted the profound traditional friendship and close exchanges between the procuratorial organs of both countries. He said that inviting the Cuban procuratorial delegation for a study program in China is a practical step by the SPP to implement the joint statement of the two countries on accelerating the building of a China-Cuba community with a shared future and the 2025-2026 cooperation plan between the two countries' procuratorial authorities.
Ying briefed the delegation on the recently concluded fourth plenary session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and on China's procuratorial work. He emphasized that advancing comprehensive law-based governance is a constitutional principle of China and a fundamental strategy of the CPC for governing the country.
He added that the Recommendations of the CPC Central Committee for Formulating the 15th Five-Year Plan for Economic and Social Development, adopted at the plenum, stress that Chinese procuratorial bodies should strengthen supervision and public interest litigation, thus entrusting greater responsibility to procuratorial organs.
Under the leadership of the CPC, Ying said, Chinese procuratorial organs are thoroughly studying and implementing Xi Jinping Thought on the Rule of Law, performing their legal supervision duties as stipulated by the Constitution and laws, serving the country's overall development, administering justice for the people, and advancing the rule of law to better support Chinese modernization.
Ying expressed the SPP's willingness to work with its Cuban counterpart to implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, share experiences in the development of the rule of law and how procuratorial organs support national modernization, deepen pragmatic cooperation in various fields, and promote the continuous deepening of the special friendship between China and Cuba, so as to better benefit both countries and their people.
Montesino expressed appreciation for Ying's warm reception, emphasizing that the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Cuba and China is a testament to the ironclad friendship between the two countries. She reaffirmed Cuba's unwavering commitment to the one-China principle and expressed gratitude for China's longstanding, selfless support and assistance.
Montesino said that Cuba's Office of the Attorney General hopes to learn from the experiences of the Chinese procuratorial authorities in areas such as supporting economic and social development and information technology, deepen friendly exchanges and expand cooperation across various fields, in order to jointly improve judicial capabilities, and to continuously promote the well-being of the peoples of both countries.
Cuban Ambassador to China Alberto Blanco Silva also attended the meeting.
