The Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) held a press conference on Nov 13, focusing on procuratorial authorities' efforts to promote core socialist values through the high-quality performance of their duties. It highlighted the role of procuratorial organs in integrating core socialist values into the development of the rule of law, and released the second batch of typical cases demonstrating such efforts.
Present at the press conference were Yang Jianbo, Director of the SPP's Law and Policy Research Office; Wu Mengshuan, Class I Senior Prosecutor of the SPP's Law and Policy Research Office; He Bin, Chief Prosecutor of the Putuo District People's Procuratorate of Shanghai; and Chen Yuwei, Chief Prosecutor of the Lanshan District People's Procuratorate of Linyi, East China's Shandong province. Together, they took questions from the media.
The six typical cases unveiled at the conference cover a range of procuratorial functions including general criminal prosecution, criminal punishment execution prosecution, civil prosecution, administrative prosecution, and public interest litigation prosecution. They reflect core socialist values such as patriotism, dedication, the rule of law, justice, amity, equality, and good faith.
Speaking at the press conference, Yang said that the fourth plenary session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) adopted the Recommendations of the CPC Central Committee for Formulating the 15th Five-Year Plan for National Economic and Social Development, which underscores the importance of promoting and practicing the core socialist values. This, he noted, places higher requirements on procuratorial organs in fulfilling their legal supervision duties in accordance with the law.
Yang added that in performing their legal supervision duties in case handling, procuratorial organs aim not only to safeguard fairness and justice in individual cases but also to promote core socialist values and foster a culture of rule of law in society.
Highlighting that the release represents a major step by procuratorial organs in promoting the spirit of the rule of law through the performance of their duties, Yang said it serves as a guide for prosecutors to uphold both the law and core socialist values, ensuring that their case handling achieves positive political, legal, and social impact.
