Ying Yong, Chief Grand Prosecutor and Prosecutor General of the Supreme People's Procuratorate of China, meets with a delegation led by Mozambican Attorney General Americo Letela in Beijing on Oct 24.

Ying Yong, Chief Grand Prosecutor and Prosecutor General of the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) of China, met with a delegation led by Mozambican Attorney General Americo Letela in Beijing on Oct 24.

Ying extended a warm welcome to Letela and his delegation. Ying said that China and Mozambique are reliable and supportive partners with a profound and long-standing friendship. He noted that this year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. President Xi Jinping and Mozambican President Daniel Chapo exchanged congratulatory messages charting the future course of bilateral relations, he said.

He emphasized that law enforcement and judicial cooperation is an important component of China-Mozambique relations. Over the years, the procuratorial organs of both countries have maintained a tradition of friendly relations, carried out pragmatic exchanges and cooperation, and achieved positive results.

Ying provided the delegation with an overview of the recently concluded fourth plenary session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) as well as the progress of China's procuratorial work. He noted that the plenum concluded successfully on Oct 23, deliberating over and adopting the Recommendations of the CPC Central Committee for Formulating the 15th Five-Year Plan for Economic and Social Development. The document outlines a grand blueprint for China's development in the next five years and key arrangements for advancing the building of a law-based China to a higher level.

Ying said that Chinese procuratorial organs, as the country's legal supervision bodies ensuring the unified and correct implementation of national laws, perform four major procuratorial functions, namely, criminal, civil, administrative, and public interest litigation, in accordance with the law under the CPC's leadership. He added that they continuously advance the procuratorial practice of Xi Jinping Thought on the Rule of Law, and support Chinese modernization through high-quality procuratorial work.

Ying expressed the SPP's willingness to work with its Mozambican counterpart to implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of both countries, and to deepen pragmatic cooperation in areas such as combating transnational and corruption-related crimes, judicial assistance in criminal matters, safeguarding public interests, and training and exchanges of procuratorial personnel. These efforts, he said, would help elevate the China-Mozambique comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership to new heights, benefiting both countries and their peoples.

Letela expressed appreciation for Ying's warm reception and his admiration for China's achievements in advancing the rule of law and procuratorial work. He introduced Mozambique's procuratorial organs and their work, noting that the missions and responsibilities of the Mozambican and Chinese procuratorial organs are similar.

He expressed the hope to learn from China's experiences in procuratorial reform and how procuratorial organs support national modernization, and to further broaden the scope and enrich the connotation of bilateral cooperation based on the two countries' past friendly cooperation, with the aim of continuously deepening the friendship between Mozambique and China.

Tong Jianming, First Deputy Prosecutor General of the SPP of China, also attended the meeting.
