SPP calls for theory-practice integration to strengthen anti-corruption efforts

A seminar on challenging cases and practices in handling duty-related crimes, with the theme "From Individual Cases to Rules—Upholding Integrity and Advancing Innovation in Handling Cases of Duty-Related Crimes", was held at Henan University on Oct 17.

Ge Xiaoyan, Deputy Prosecutor General of the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP), attended the meeting and emphasized that as new forms of corruption and covert corruption continue to emerge, procuratorial work in handling duty-related crimes faces many new challenges. She stressed the urgent need for judicial practitioners and academic experts to collaborate and better serve the overall anti-corruption work.

Ge stressed the need to strengthen case studies and guidance for case handling to unify the principles of law enforcement and judicial practices as well as case handling standards, and ensure accurate punishment against all types of duty-related crimes in accordance with the law, so as to consolidate anti-corruption achievements through efficient and high-quality procuratorial practices.

Furthermore, Ge underscored the importance of strengthening cooperation between procuratorates and academic institutions by establishing a comprehensive collaboration mechanism covering talent cultivation, theoretical research, procuratorial practices, and professional training. She urged efforts to focus on building an independent knowledge system for Chinese procuratorial studies, supported by strengthened theoretical explanations, academic expressions, and systematic frameworks.

Duan Wenlong, Chief Prosecutor of the Henan Provincial People's Procuratorate, and Ji Bo, Party Secretary of Henan University, attended and delivered speeches at the seminar. Jia Yu, President of the Shanghai High People's Court and Chairman of the Chinese Association of Criminal Law, delivered a video address.

The seminar was also attended by deputies to the National People's Congress, relevant officials from the Communist Party of China Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Supervisory Commission, the Supreme People's Court, local supervisory commissions, courts and procuratorial organs, as well as experts and scholars from various higher education institutions.

During the event, officials attending the seminar presented award certificates to the winners of the essay competition on the seminar's main topic.
