A workshop on the application of big data legal supervision models and the high-quality development of digital prosecution was held on Sept 15 in Guiyang, Southwest China's Guizhou province. The event was guided by the Digital Prosecution Office of the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP), and hosted by Digital Prosecution, a special edition of the Procuratorial Daily.

Participants engaged in discussions on fundamental and forward-looking issues, including the establishment of digital prosecution mechanisms, data acquisition and governance, the integration and use of the new and existing big data legal supervision platforms, as well as trends in artificial intelligence (AI) innovation and applications, and pathways for AI development and governance.

During the experience-sharing session, representatives from procuratorates of different regions shared their insights on identifying application scenarios for building and utilizing big data legal supervision models based on their local case-handling practice, statutory functions and supervision areas. They also engaged in in-depth discussions on the data sources of such models, supervision rules, ways to better fulfill their procuratorial duties, and the effectiveness of applying big data models, paving the way for promoting the replication of the models and cross-regional collaboration among procuratorial organs.

Addressing issues such as model homogeneity and low application rates, experts and scholars emphasized the need to focus on prosecution practices, and to adopt an integrated, coordinated and systematic approach in advancing the application and governance of the models. They also called for dynamically adjusting application scenarios in line with actual prosecutorial practice and model development, so as to enhance compatibility and effectiveness through iterative upgrades.

Experts and scholars from institutions such as the Central University of Finance and Economics and the Institute of Scientific and Technical Information of China participated in the workshop and shared their insights and experiences. Representatives from the procuratorates of Hubei, Liaoning, Henan, and Gansu provinces shared their practical experience in applying big data legal supervision models.
