Tong Jianming, First Deputy Prosecutor General of the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) of China, met with a delegation led by Valeriy Georgievich Petrov, Deputy Prosecutor General and Chief Military Prosecutor of Russia, in Beijing on July 15.
On behalf of the SPP and Prosecutor General Ying Yong, Tong extended a warm welcome to Petrov and his delegation. Noting that China and Russia are friendly neighbors connected by mountains and rivers, Tong said that under the strategic guidance of Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin, bilateral relations have reached a historic high and continue to develop in a stable and comprehensive way.
Tong said that with the continuous deepening of the political mutual trust and strategic coordination between the two countries, the Chinese and Russian procuratorial authorities have developed closer exchanges with frequent high-level mutual visits and fruitful pragmatic cooperation.
During the meeting, Tong provided a brief overview of China's progress in the development of the rule of law and procuratorial work. He emphasized that promoting overall law-based governance is a fundamental principle of the Constitution and the governance strategy of China.
He said that the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core attaches great importance to advancing the rule of law, highlighting the need to advance the building of a modern socialist country on all fronts along the track of the rule of law and comprehensively promote law-based governance across all the aspects of the country's work.
In recent years, China has made a series of historic achievements in the development of the rule of law, among which the most significant landmark achievement is the establishment of Xi Jinping Thought on the Rule of Law, he said.
Tong noted that under the leadership of the CPC, Chinese procuratorial organs are making consistent efforts to implement the guiding principles of the 20th CPC National Congress and the third plenary session of the 20th CPC Central Committee, and fulfill their constitutional responsibility of legal supervision in accordance with the law. They are striving to handle each case with high quality and efficiency in order to serve the overall development of the country, administer justice for the people, and uphold the rule of law. They are continuously promoting the procuratorial practice of Xi Jinping Thought on the Rule of Law and strive to provide better legal safeguards for the advancement of Chinese modernization.
Tong expressed the SPP's willingness to work closely with the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation to implement the important consensus reached by the heads of state of both countries, share experiences of promoting the rule of law, deepen pragmatic cooperation in the judicial field, and enhance the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Russia for the benefit of both nations and their people.
Petrov thanked Tong for the warm reception, and expressed his readiness to further strengthen coordination of prosecution between Russia and China across various fields based on the existing collaboration results, so as to contribute to the sustained and sound development of the bilateral relations.
Zhang Jin, Chief Prosecutor of the Military Procuratorate of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, was also in attendance at the meeting.
