The Procuratorial Technology Information Research Center of the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) has recently finalized its expert pool for judicial appraisal consultation, unveiling 62 experts as the pool's first batch of members.
The selected experts have rich experiences in judicial appraisal in their respective professional fields. Among them are three academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, along with leading judicial appraisal experts from institutions such as the Appraisal Center of the Ministry of Public Security, the Academy of Forensic Science, the China University of Political Science and Law, and the Criminal Investigation Police University of China.
The expert pool spans a comprehensive array of 15 professional disciplines, including forensic clinical medicine, forensic pathology, forensic biology evidence, forensic toxicology, questioned document examination, forensic trace examination, forensic environmental damage assessment, forensic food safety analysis, forensic pharmaceutical analysis, microtrace evidence, digital forensics, forensic image identification, forensic audio identification, forensic satellite remote sensing, and forensic accounting, covering all areas of judicial appraisal involved in procuratorial work.
The members of the expert pool are selected through a rigorous process. According to the trial management guidelines for the expert pool, the candidates are approved by the SPP leadership after they are invited by the Procuratorial Technology Information Research Center, and recommended by the institutions they belong to. The expert pool adopts a dynamic management system. Each expert is appointed for a five-year term, with renewal based on actual circumstances and mutual agreement after the term expires.
The Procuratorial Technology Information Research Center stated that the establishment of the expert pool is a concrete measure to implement the work arrangements outlined in the Guidelines of the Supreme People's Procuratorate on Strengthening Procuratorial Technology Work in the New Era. It aims to better leverage judicial appraisal and related procuratorial technical support in procuratorial case handling, and provide professional support for prosecutors in handling each case with high quality and efficiency.
The research center said that in the next step, the role of experts will be fully utilized through participation in case analysis and provision of consultation opinions, assisting procuratorial organs in addressing specialized issues arising from major, difficult, and complex cases.
