Ying Yong, Chief Grand Prosecutor and Prosecutor General of the Supreme People's Procuratorate of China, meets with a delegation led by Thai Attorney General Phairach Pornsomboonsiri in Beijing on July 10.

Ying Yong, Chief Grand Prosecutor and Prosecutor General of the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) of China, met with a delegation led by Thai Attorney General Phairach Pornsomboonsiri in Beijing on July 10.

Ying extended his welcome to Phairach and his delegation, noting that China and Thailand are good neighbors connected by mountains and rivers, close relatives with blood ties, and good partners with a shared future.

He said that since they established diplomatic relations, the two countries have always treated each other with mutual respect and equality for mutual benefits and win-win results. The concept that "China and Thailand are as close as one family" has taken deep root in the hearts of both peoples.

Ying noted this year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Thailand and the Golden Jubilee of China-Thailand Friendship. Under the strategic guidance of the leaders of both countries, consistent efforts have been made to build a more substantive and dynamic China-Thailand community with a shared future, he said.

He said that over the years, the procuratorial authorities of both countries have maintained a traditionally friendly relationship with continuous and friendly people-to-people exchanges at all levels, yielding fruitful results in their practical cooperation.

According to Ying, under multilateral mechanisms such as the China-ASEAN Prosecutors-General Conference, procuratorial organs of both countries have supported each other, closely cooperated, and jointly safeguarded the interests of both countries and regional peace and stability.

Ying briefed the Thai delegation on the procuratorial organs of China and their work, saying the procuratorial organs of China serve as the country's legal supervision body and as a judicial body ensuring the unified and correct implementation of the country's laws.

He noted that under the leadership of the Communist Party of China (CPC), the procuratorial organs of China have been thoroughly implementing the guiding principles of the 20th CPC National Congress and the third plenary session of the 20th CPC Central Committee. They fulfill their legal supervision responsibilities in accordance with the law, serve the overall development of the country, administrate justice for the people, uphold the rule of law, and continuously promote the procuratorial practice of Xi Jinping Thought on the Rule of Law, he added.

Ying expressed the SPP's willingness to work together with the Thai Office of the Attorney General to effectively implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of both countries and the joint statement issued by the two governments in February this year. He called for deepened practical cooperation in areas such as combatting transnational crimes, extradition and repatriation of fugitives, and criminal judicial assistance, and advancing judicial cooperation in the Lancang-Mekong region, so as to provide stronger judicial support for high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, and better serve the modernization efforts of both countries.

Phairach expressed his appreciation for the meeting with Ying and his admiration for the achievements China has made in its modernization drive and the development of the rule of law.

He said that the fact that "Thailand and China are as close as one family" has a long tradition and a solid foundation, and that the traditional friendship between the procuratorial authorities of both countries has been continuously strengthened.

He expressed the hope to further learn from and draw on the advanced judicial concepts of the procuratorial organs of China and their experience conducive to serving the country's modernization, and strengthen practical cooperation with the Chinese side in areas such as combating new-type and transnational crimes, extraditing and repatriating fugitives, as well as the exchanges and training of prosecutors, so as to push the friendly relationship between the procuratorial organs of both countries to a new stage.

Following the meeting, both sides signed a cooperation agreement.

Tong Jianming, First Deputy Prosecutor General of the SPP of China, and Chatchom Akapin, Deputy Attorney General of Thailand, also attended the meeting.
