Ying Yong, Chief Grand Prosecutor and Prosecutor General of the Supreme People's Procuratorate of China, meets with a delegation led by Edwin Tong, Singapore's Minister for Law and Second Minister for Home Affairs, in Beijing on July 1.

Ying Yong, Chief Grand Prosecutor and Prosecutor General of the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) of China, met with a delegation led by Edwin Tong, Singapore's Minister for Law and Second Minister for Home Affairs, in Beijing on July 1.

Ying warmly welcomed Tong and his delegation, underscoring the deep-rooted friendship and strong partnership between China and Singapore. Noting that this year marks the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Singapore, Ying highlighted that the two sides have consistently upheld mutual understanding and respect, which has provided a solid foundation for the stable and sound development of bilateral relations.

Ying noted the recent meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong during the latter's official visit to China, where both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to carrying forward traditional friendship and opening up new prospects for bilateral cooperation.

Ying said exchanges and cooperation in the rule of law are a vital part of the all-round high-quality future-oriented partnership between China and Singapore. He added that frequent high-level mutual visits between the two countries' law enforcement and judicial authorities, including procuratorial organs, have yielded fruitful outcomes, providing strong legal safeguards for deepening high-quality development of both countries and forward-looking bilateral cooperation.

Ying briefed the delegation on China's judicial system and the procuratorial work. He said that China's procuratorial organs, as stipulated by the country's Constitution, serve as both legal supervisory bodies and judicial institutions ensuring uniform and correct implementation of national laws. Through independent and impartial exercise of procuratorial power, they effectively combat crimes, protect human rights, resolve disputes, and uphold justice, he added.

Under the leadership of the Communist Party of China (CPC), Chinese procuratorial organs have been thoroughly implementing the guiding principles of the 20th CPC National Congress and the third plenary session of the 20th CPC Central Committee. They are committed to promoting law-based and effective performance of duties, handling every case with high quality and efficiency, and continuously advancing the procuratorial practice of Xi Jinping Thought on the Rule of Law, in order to better serve the country's comprehensive deepening of reforms and the advancement of Chinese modernization, Ying noted.

Ying said China's SPP is ready to work with Singapore's law enforcement and judicial authorities, including the Ministry of Law and the Attorney-General's Chambers, to implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of both countries, deepen pragmatic cooperation, enhance exchanges and mutual learning, uphold judicial fairness, and promote social justice, so as to benefit the people of both nations.

Tong expressed gratitude for the meeting with Ying, acknowledging the deep-rooted and enduring friendship between Singapore and China.

Noting that cooperation between the judicial organs of both countries is on a firm foundation with promising prospects, he pledged to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with China's SPP in multiple fields, including combating new and transnational crimes and maintaining social order and good morals, to ensure that progress in the development of the rule of law benefits the people of both countries.

Singapore's Ambassador to China Peter Tan also attended the meeting.
