The Supreme People's Procuratorate and the Society Work Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee hold a public open day on May 30 under the theme of "Joining Hands to Safeguard Children's Future".

The Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) and the Society Work Department (SWD) of the CPC Central Committee held an open day on May 30, with the theme of "Joining Hands to Safeguard Children's Future," in celebration of International Children's Day.

As part of the event, Ying Yong, Prosecutor General of the SPP, and Wu Hansheng, head of the SWD of the CPC Central Committee, presented books on the rule of law to participating students.

Tong Jianming, First Deputy Prosecutor General of the SPP, delivered a welcome speech and released typical cases highlighting the enhancement of social work services in juvenile prosecution work. Gong Ming, Deputy Prosecutor General of the SPP, was also present.

In his speech, Tong emphasized the crucial role of procuratorial work in the entire process of judicial protection for minors and its significant responsibility in protecting them.

He said that in recent years, procuratorates nationwide have thoroughly implemented laws on the protection and prevention of crimes against minors, upholding a "zero tolerance" stance towards such crimes and enhancing the prevention and control of juvenile delinquency.

He noted that procuratorial organs have comprehensively fulfilled their duties under the "four major procuratorial functions" in the protection of minors and promoted collaborated efforts on the "six major protection" initiative – a collaborative effort among family, school, society, cyberspace, government bodies, and judicial organs for the protection of minors – to form a united front to ensure the healthy growth of minors.

Noting that protecting minors is a shared responsibility of society, Tong pledged that procuratorial organs will continue to deepen practical cooperation with relevant departments in juvenile protection, and work together to protect minors with solid efforts.

Six typical cases related to juvenile prosecution, jointly compiled by the SPP and the SWD of the CPC Central Committee, were released during the event. The cases showcase various criminal offenses and collaborative approaches, illustrating the involvement of social workers in the juvenile crimes prevention, case handling, correction, assistance and education for minors throughout the entire process.
