Ying Yong, Chief Grand Prosecutor and Prosecutor General of the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) of China, met with a Fijian delegation led by Attorney General Graham Leung in Beijing on May 27.

Ying extended a warm welcome to Leung and his delegation. He said that Fiji was the first Pacific island country to establish diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Fiji. Over the past five decades, both countries have respected each other's sovereignty and supported and assisted one another, setting an example of mutual respect and friendly cooperation between nations of different sizes, Ying said.

He noted that under the strategic guidance of leaders from both countries, China-Fiji relations have made significant progress in various fields, yielding fruitful results in exchanges and cooperation.

The exchange and cooperation between the procuratorial authorities are an important part of friendly relations between China and Fiji. Over the years, the two countries' procuratorial authorities have maintained close ties and engaged in practical exchanges and cooperation, providing strong legal safeguards for the development of both nations, Ying said.

Ying briefed the Fijian guests about China's judicial system and procuratorial work. He emphasized that comprehensive governing of the country in accordance with the law is a fundamental constitutional principle and a basic strategy for national governance in China.

He noted that China is advancing the building of a modern socialist country on the track of the rule of law and promoting the development of the rule of law on all fronts.

As a legal supervisory body and a judicial organ ensuring the correct and unified implementation of the law, China's procuratorates, under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, fulfill their duties of legal supervision in accordance with the law. They serve the overall interests of the country, administer justice for the people, uphold the rule of law, advance the procuratorial practice of Xi Jinping Thought on the Rule of Law, and contribute to Chinese modernization through high-quality duty performance, Ying said.

The SPP of China is willing to work together with the Attorney General's Office of Fiji to implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of both countries, share experiences in advancing the rule of law, strengthen judicial exchanges and cooperation, jointly uphold judicial fairness and justice, maintain the dignity and authority of the rule of law, and use the power of the rule of law to serve the healthy and stable development of the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Fiji, so as to better benefit both countries and their people, he said.

Leung expressed gratitude for the warm reception, and highly praised China's achievements in advancing the rule of law and prosecution work. He emphasized that the friendship between Fiji and China, based on mutual respect and equal treatment, is highly valued by the Fijian government and people.

The Attorney General's Office of Fiji is willing to further strengthen friendly exchanges with the SPP of China, learn from China's judicial and procuratorial reform experiences, enhance cooperation in law enforcement and judicial efforts in combating corruption and protecting public interests, and better safeguard the sovereignty, security, and development interests of both countries, he said.
