SPP launches reading salon series

To mark World Reading Day, which falls on April 23, the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) held the first‌ session of its "Procuratorial Forum @ Reading in the New Era" reading salon on April 22, focusing on ‌the integration of the theory and practice in China's criminal law.

Shi Weizhong, a permanent member at the deputy-ministerial class of the SPP's Procuratorial Committee, attended the event, while Che Hao, Deputy Dean of Peking University Law School, delivered a keynote address and had in-depth discussions with attendees on how to effectively align theoretical research on criminal law with judicial practices.

Shi emphasized that the reading salon serves as an important platform for dialogue between legal academia and judicial practitioners. He called on SPP staff to ‌uphold the rule of law in both thinking and practice, ensure impartiality and justice, and provide strong theoretical support and practical insights to guarantee the high-quality and efficient handling of every case.

Zhou Guangquan, Vice-Chairman of the Constitution and Law Committee of the National People's Congress and Dean of Tsinghua University Law School, and Zhang Xiaojin, Director-General of the Prosecutorial Department for Crimes of Dereliction of Duty and a member of the Procuratorial Committee of the SPP, participated in the salon as guest speakers. Young procurators from the SPP attended the event and took part in the discussions.

The reading salon series will continue to invite experts, scholars, and legal practitioners to study classic works and discuss frontier issues in a bid to enhance the professional competence and performance capabilities of procuratorial personnel.
