The Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) announced the official establishment of a department specializing in intellectual property rights (IPR), which is integrated with its‌ Procuratorial Department for Economic Crime‌, at a press conference on April 23.

SPP spokesperson Li Xuehui said the SPP has consistently prioritized IPR. To this end, it established the Procuratorial Office of Intellectual Property in November 2020 as an internal case-handling institution to advance comprehensive duty fulfillment in IPR prosecution.

Li added that the inauguration of the procuratorial department of intellectual property reflects the high priority the Communist Party of China Central Committee places on IPR protection. It marks a significant step toward a more specialized and comprehensive development phase in the country's judicial protection of IPR.
