Ying Yong, Chief Grand Prosecutor and Prosecutor General of the Supreme People's Procuratorate, meets with Paul Lam Ting-kwok, Secretary for Justice of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, in Beijing on March 28.
Ying Yong, Chief Grand Prosecutor and Prosecutor General of the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP), met with a delegation led by Paul Lam Ting-kwok, Secretary for Justice of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), in Beijing on March 28.
Ying extended a warm welcome to Lam and his delegation, emphasizing the pivotal speech delivered by President Xi Jinping during his meeting with HKSAR Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu in Beijing at the end of last year, which charted the course for Hong Kong's transition from governance to prosperity.
Noting that the rule of law is a vital cornerstone for the stable and prosperous development of the HKSAR, Ying said the law enforcement and judicial institutions in the special administrative region, including the Department of Justice (DOJ) of the HKSAR, have played a positive role in upholding the rule of law and promoting prosperity and stability in the region.
Ying noted that the SPP has strengthened exchanges, mutual learning, and pragmatic cooperation with Hong Kong's law enforcement and judicial institutions in recent years. He emphasized the SPP's support for the DOJ in foreign exchanges under the "one country, two systems" framework and the department's proactive involvement in multilateral cooperation mechanisms, such as the China-ASEAN Prosecutors-General Conference and the International Association of Prosecutors. These efforts highlight the distinct advantages of the "one country, two systems" policy, Ying said.
Ying also said that the SPP will support the DOJ in organizing the 15th China-ASEAN Prosecutors-General Conference, which will take place in Hong Kong.
Lam expressed gratitude for the long-standing support from the SPP for the work of Hong Kong’s DOJ. He reiterated the department's unswerving commitment to upholding the "one country, two systems" principle while fully tapping into Hong Kong's common law system to facilitate the region's integration into the country's overall economic and social development, thereby promoting national development with Hong Kong's strengths.
He promised that the DOJ will meticulously organize the 15th China-ASEAN Prosecutors-General Conference to the highest standard.
Tong Jianming, Class I Grand Prosecutor and First Deputy Prosecutor General of the SPP, also attended the meeting.
