The Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) released a series of typical cases from 2024 on public interest litigation assisting rural vitalization on March 27, aiming to summarize the achievements of procuratorial efforts in the field and provide guidance for procuratorates nationwide in handling such cases.
The newly released cases involve various aspects related to agriculture, rural areas and farmers, including farmland protection, the inheritance of rural agricultural cultural heritage, rural living environment improvement, rural production safety, and the protection of rights and interests for vulnerable groups in rural areas, demonstrating the positive role played by procuratorial public interest litigation in advancing rural vitalization.
Among them, three cases focus on farmland protection. The procuratorial organs, through handling these cases, urged the relevant administrative authorities to fulfill their duties in accordance with the law, including the rectification of farmland converted for non-agricultural and non-grain production purposes, improving farmland quality to ensure grain production, and reclaiming misappropriated funds for the construction of high-standard farmland.
To further enhance rural living environment, the procuratorial organs promoted the implementation of rural toilet renovations during case handling, while also supporting income growth of people lifted out of poverty to consolidate the poverty alleviation achievements.
In addition, the procuratorial organs have paid high attention to the protection of rural cultural heritage by facilitating the preservation of traditional villages and strengthening support for local cultural figures.
One of the released cases involves protecting the rights and interests of the elderly in rural areas.
The Public Interest Litigation Procuratorial Department of the SPP stated that efforts will be made to improve the quality of public interest litigation services for rural vitalization, further strengthen cooperation with relevant administrative authorities, and contribute to the promotion of rural vitalization on all fronts.
