Ge Xiaoyan, Deputy Prosecutor General of the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) of China, met with Petr Klement, Deputy European Chief Prosecutor of the European Public Prosecutor's Office (EPPO), and Amélie Rodrigues, Counsellor to the European Chief Prosecutor for International Relations, on Sept 26 for a cordial and friendly exchange.
Ge extended a warm welcome to Klement. China and the European Union (EU) have had a comprehensive strategic partnership since 2003, and China's SPP has always maintained a positive attitude towards fostering and strengthening exchanges and cooperation with the EU, she said.
Ge noted that since the EPPO started operations in June 2021, it has handled multiple cross-border financial crime cases, indicating its active role in protecting EU interests through legal means.
Ge briefed Klement on the legal supervision framework of Chinese procuratorial organs, which covers the four major procuratorial areas of criminal, civil, administrative and public interest litigation. She highlighted the role of Chinese procuratorial organs in lawfully punishing and preventing financial crimes, safeguarding national financial security, and providing legal guarantees for high-quality economic and financial development.
Chinese procuratorial organs are willing to join hands with the EPPO to deepen cooperation in combating economic crimes and jointly ensure a secure environment for high-quality economic development, she noted.
Klement said he could identify with the work of Chinese procuratorial organs in combating economic crimes. He introduced the operational status and main functions of the EPPO since its establishment three years ago, emphasizing the advantages and achievements of the EPPO as a specialized prosecutorial body covering 24 member states in combating economic crimes. He also expressed a willingness to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with Chinese procuratorial organs.
