The Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) held its 46th open-day event on Sept 20 under the theme of "Technology Contributes to Procuratorial Work, Rule of Law Safeguards the Building of a Scientific and Technological Powerhouse”.
At the event, Zhang Xueqiao, Deputy Prosecutor General of the SPP, emphasized that Chinese modernization hinges on the modernization of science and technology. Procuratorial authorities should give full play to the important role of science and technology in promoting the modernization of judicial work, Zhang said.
In recent years, the internet-based procuratorial network has been fully leveraged to unify over 3,600 procuratorates nationwide in handling cases, enhancing case information sharing and ensuring more standardized case procedures, Zhang said.
A digital prosecution strategy has been implemented, and the big data legal supervision models have been utilized to identify common issues within specific sectors and industries, he said. This way, the transition from supervision of individual cases to the governance of similar cases in the concepts and approaches of legal supervision has been realized, he added.
The practice has proved that achieving the goal of "ensuring the people feel fairness and justice in every judicial case" relies heavily on technological support, he said.
Zhang urged further strengthening integration of science and technology with procuratorial work, continually applying advanced technologies, such as big data, artificial intelligence and satellite remote sensing, to empower procuratorial case handling throughout the whole process.
More than 60 student and teacher representatives from the Beijing National Day School, the Beijing No. 4 High School and branches of the High School Affiliated to Renmin University of China attended the open day.
Also present at the event were deputies to the National People's Congress Guo Lei, Ma Xu, Dong Jin, Jiang Peng, Zhang Tao, Zhao Zhihai and Zheng Yongguang; Zhao Jing, a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference; and Li Zheng, Vice-Chairperson of the Social and Legal Affairs Committee of the Central Committee of the China Association for Promoting Democracy.
