The Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) held a cross-border video conference with the Public Prosecution Office of the Kingdom of Bahrain on August 1 to implement the memorandum of understanding on cooperation between them.

During the meeting, both sides engaged in candid and friendly discussions on the digital transformation of public prosecution work, and particularly on the application of artificial intelligence (AI).

Officials from the SPP's Procuratorial Technology Information Research Center, Case Management Office, and Procuratorial Department for Economic Crime introduced China's procuratorial system, which has established a nationwide internet-based interconnected "network," enabling intelligent case analysis, quality assessments, data analysis and other functions.

They also highlighted China's emphasis on the application of science and technology, and on utilizing remote sensing data, electronic evidence, forensic technology, and physical evidence to ensure that people feel fairness and justice in every judicial case.

During discussions, officials from the International Cooperation Bureau of the SPP said that while China and Bahrain have different national conditions, both countries aim to enhance the quality and efficiency of case handling through the application of new technologies, such as information technology and AI, to better achieve fairness and justice.

They expressed the hope that the two countries' procuratorial authorities would further share experiences in strengthening the rule of law and deepen exchanges and cooperation in combating transnational crimes, information technology development, and prosecutor training.

Frontline prosecutors from provincial-level regions including Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Beijing, and Chongqing shared specific cases where they utilized AI technologies such as blockchain evidence collection, privacy computing, and professional profiling in judicial practice.

Officials from the Public Prosecution Office of Bahrain lauded China's achievements in the digital prosecution field, shared Bahrain's information technology development efforts, and engaged in discussions with the Chinese side on specific issues such as online case handling.

A counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Bahrain attended the meeting.
