SPP upholds high-quality case handling standards to strengthen ecological conservation of national parks

Zhang Xueqiao, Deputy Prosecutor General of the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP), has called for adhering to high-quality and efficient case handling standards in the public interest judicial protection of the ecological environment of national parks to help tackle challenges.

Zhang made the remarks at a seminar on the role of procuratorial organs in serving the construction of national parks in Xining, the capital of Northwest China's Qinghai province, on June 28.

Zhang pointed out that procuratorial organs at all levels must consistently prioritize the protection of the ecological environment and natural resources, striking a balance between high-level protection and high-quality development.

Noting that serving the construction of national parks is a systemic project, he called for active exploration of a mechanism of legal supervision by procuratorial organs that aligns with the national park management system.

This initiative aims to promote a coordinated work pattern, enhance collaboration within procuratorial organs, strengthen cooperation with administrative departments responsible for national park management, forestry, grassland and ecological environment, and advance the coordinated protection and comprehensive governance of the ecological environment within national park areas, Zhang said.

Yang Fasen, a member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Qinghai Provincial Committee and Secretary of the Political and Legal Affairs Commission of the CPC Qinghai Provincial Committee, and Wang Zhigao, chief economist of the National Forestry and Grassland Administration, delivered speeches at the seminar.

Liu Tao, Vice-Governor of Qinghai; Zhang Yi, Secretary of the Party Leadership Group and Chief Prosecutor of the Hainan Provincial People's Procuratorate; Shen Jian, Secretary of the Party Leadership Group and Chief Prosecutor of the Gansu Provincial People's Procuratorate; and Zha Qingjiu, Secretary of the Party Leadership Group and Chief Prosecutor of the Qinghai Provincial People's Procuratorate, were also present at the seminar.

A number of deputies to the National People's Congress including Ma Huiling, Ma Fuchang and Ning Yaqiu, as well as Zhu Lieyu, a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, were invited to participate in the meeting.

Representatives from 10 provincial-level procuratorates involved in the construction of national parks exchanged views on supporting the endeavor.
