On June 25, the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) held a press conference on the efforts of procuratorial organs across the country in efficiently handling drug-related crime cases and comprehensively advancing drug control.

The work of procuratorial organs nationwide in punishing drug-related crimes and strengthening comprehensive drug control since 2023 was briefed upon at the press conference. Chen Guoqing, a member of the Party Leadership Group and Deputy Prosecutor General of the SPP, attended the press conference and introduced the relevant situation.

Chen said that in recent years, procuratorial organs nationwide have diligently performed their functions, effectively handling drug-related crime cases with high quality and efficiency and achieving positive results in drug control.

He said that procuratorial organs play an active role in the investigation, supervision and coordination mechanism, and continuously strengthen the oversight of case filing and investigation. They have enhanced judicial supervision, comprehensively used supervision methods such as procuratorial protests and correcting opinions, promptly corrected obvious errors in conviction and sentencing, serious violations of trial procedures, and effectively safeguarded judicial justice, he added.

Noting that procuratorial organs have deepened the comprehensive governance of drug control, Chen said that following the issuance of the “No 7 Procuratorial Recommendations" in May 2023, the SPP, together with 16 other departments, including the State Post Bureau, issued a special action plan for safe postal delivery to jointly conduct inspection and rectification of security risks in postal channels.

Procuratorial organs across the country have actively communicated, coordinated and closely cooperated with drug control-related departments, conducting various forms of drug prevention and control publicity activities, he said.

The SPP also put forward opinions and recommendations to relevant national departments regarding prominent issues found in the management and use of cannabis by medical institutions and their staff when handling drug-related cases involving the substance, he added.

During the press conference, the SPP also released top 10 typical cases of high-quality and efficient handling of drug-related crime cases and comprehensively advancing drug control by procuratorial organs.
