The Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP), in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Security and the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, has issued a notice on intensifying efforts to crack down upon environmental crimes involving hazardous waste and the falsification of pollution source monitoring data.
It is specified that from April to December, the three departments will continue to carry out a special campaign to rigorously combat environmental crimes related to hazardous waste and the falsification of pollution source monitoring data across the country. This year marks the fifth year in a row for them to conduct the campaign nationwide.
The notice highlighted the need to focus on major criminal cases and intensify crackdowns.
Efforts should be made to enhance law enforcement capabilities by leveraging technological support to break information barriers, strengthen the data comparison and integration, improve early warning systems, identify clues for law violations and promote the construction of data-driven intelligent mechanisms, the notice said.
It called for deepening inter-departmental coordination by establishing effective long-term mechanisms for coordination between law enforcement and judicial departments, implementing a two-way case consultation system, and developing evidence criteria for cases involved in the campaign.
The notice also urged strengthening law enforcement assistance to support the green development of enterprises.
In addition, the notice called for local authorities to conduct in-depth analyses of the characteristics of cases handled during the campaign in recent years, figure out the possible beneficiaries behind these crimes, summarize experiences from the good practices, and identify challenges and difficulties in order to help enhance case-handling capabilities and efficiency.
