A special campaign will be launched nationwide to beef up the protection of women's rights and interests and to make them better benefit from the achievements of China's modernization drive in a more equitable manner, according to a notice jointly released by the top judicial authorities, central government departments and federations (including the All-China Women's Federation, the Supreme People's Court, the Supreme People's Procuratorate, the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of Civil Affairs, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, the Office of the National Working Committee on Children and Women under the State Council, and the China Disabled Persons' Federation).
The notice urged all the regions and relevant departments to make efforts to promote the comprehensive implementation of the newly revised Law on the Protection of the Rights and Interests of Women and to focus on addressing prominent issues that hamper or infringe on women's rights and interests.
The notice emphasized the need to strengthen care and assistance for disadvantaged women, with a focus on the low-income, elderly and disabled women, and to provide them with targeted services.
Efforts should be made to strengthen the prevention and resolution of marital and family conflicts, with particular attention paid to issues such as couples living in different locations, changes in marital status, changes in custody and disputes over inheritance of property, in order to promptly follow up on and resolve disputes and prevent conflicts from escalating, leading to civil or criminal cases, or even causing deaths, the notice said.
The notice urged efforts to enhance the work against domestic violence, focusing on further strengthening inter-departmental coordination, and promoting a whole-process prevention and control of domestic violence.
It also emphasized the need to strengthen the protection of women's right to equal employment, with a focus on gender discrimination, the establishment and improvement of a sound mechanism for regulatory talks, increased law enforcement efforts, and the lawful investigation of and penalty over cases of law violations in order to create a fair employment environment for women.
Special attention will be given to the protection of rural women's land rights, with a focus on special groups such as women who have married, divorced, and become widowed, "left-behind" women in rural areas, and households without male members, in order to lawfully address the issues related to the recognition of rural women’s membership in rural collective economic organizations and their rights to land contracting and management, the notice said.
