BEIJING, March 15 (Xinhua) -- China has launched a nationwide campaign among procuratorial agencies to supervise food safety cases and intensify public interest litigation for the protection of people's health, the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) said Friday.
The campaign, lasting from February until December, will target food and drug safety problems emerging from new business modes, such as group purchases, internet marketing and livestreaming sales, according to the SPP.
Procuratorial agencies will make efforts to tackle consumer concerns, including regulating the pre-cooked food industry, addressing excessive use of food additives, and combating drug abuse, according to the SPP.
The SPP added that in 2023, procuratorial agencies at all levels handled more than 23,000 public interest litigation cases involving food and drug safety, up 16.8 percent year on year.
Friday marks the World Consumer Rights Day.
