Chinese prosecutors and judges continued their efforts in the fight against serious violent crimes last year to improve people's sense of security, according to annual work reports of the Supreme People's Court and the Supreme People's Procuratorate.

The reports made by China's top judicial authorities were submitted to the ongoing second session of the 14th National People's Congress, China's top legislature, on Friday for review.

Data released by SPP's report showed that 61,000 people were accused of intentional homicide, robbery, kidnapping and some other severe violent crimes in 2023, and the SPC said that courts nationwide solved 52,000 cases in which defendants were convicted of serious violent crimes.

Female serial killer Lao Rongzhi's case was written into the top court's report. Lao, who was convicted of intentional homicide, kidnapping and robbery, was executed in December after the SPC approved her death penalty.
