Chinese prosecutors step up efforts to protect people's livelihoods

The Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) recently issued an action plan on the launch of a special campaign focusing on the protection of people's livelihoods, aiming to strengthen judicial protection for people's livelihoods.   

The campaign, running from February to December, will focus on livelihood issues like food, medicine, and social security, also on key groups like employees, consumers, and women.

According to the plan, the campaign features 11 key measures, including better protecting the rights and interests of workers, especially those in flexible and new forms of employment; safeguarding  the legitimate rights and interests of financial market entities in accordance with the law and handling real estate disputes properly; tightening civil procuratorial supervision of contract disputes involving counterfeit and inferior goods, conducting public interest litigation related to food and drug safety problems arising from new online businesses while arranging special supervision over the safety of food sold online, especially through live streaming; strengthening the protection of personal information; promoting judicial aid to meet basic living needs of people; reinforcing procuratorial supervision in the field of social insurance; enhancing the protection of the rights and interests of specific groups such as people with disabilities, the elderly, juveniles, and women; safeguarding the interests of national defense and the rights and interests of military personnel and their families, and those of martyrs; reinforcing procuratorial supervision of telecom and online frauds; advancing the protection of the ecological environment and natural resources; promoting procuratorial work to better serve agriculture, rural areas, and farmers in China.
