Chief Grand Prosecutor and Prosecutor General of the Supreme People's Procuratorate of the People's Republic of China (SPP) Ying Yong met with a delegation led by Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Singapore Sundaresh Menon in Beijing on Nov 29.

In his welcoming speech, Ying said that China and Singapore are friendly neighbors and important partners in cooperation, and that China attaches great importance to the development of China-Singapore relations. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1990, China and Singapore have jointly embarked on a successful path of mutual learning and win-win cooperation, which has not only promoted the development and revitalization of both countries, but has also set a benchmark for exchanges and cooperation between countries in the region. In March, President Xi Jinping and Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong jointly announced the elevation of China-Singapore relations to an all-round, high-quality and future-oriented partnership, providing direction and guidance for the development of bilateral relations in the new era.

Ying reviewed the friendly exchanges and practical cooperation between the procuratorial organs of the two countries. He said that the partnership between China and Singapore is forward-looking, and judicial exchanges and cooperation between the two countries should also focus on the future.

Ying told the visiting Singaporean delegation that China's procuratorial organs are striving for the modernization of the procuratorial work to serve the Chinese path to modernization, fully performing their functions in criminal, civil, administrative, and public interest litigation prosecutions, and promoting Xi Jinping Thought on the Rule of Law in prosecutorial work.

Ying added that the SPP is willing to work with judicial institutions such as the Supreme Court of Singapore to further strengthen exchanges and communication, deepen high-quality judicial cooperation, and work together to provide strong judicial guarantees for the high-quality economic and social development of the two countries and to better benefit the two countries and their peoples.

Menon stated that the favorable development of China-Singapore relations has laid a solid foundation for high-quality exchanges and cooperation in the judicial field between the two countries. He looks forward to further strengthening communication and exchanges with the SPP, deepening practical cooperation in areas such as judicial personnel exchange and training, collaborative efforts to combat transnational crimes, and judicial assistance, and jointly contributing judicial strength to the modernization of the two countries.

Class I Grand Prosecutor and First Deputy Prosecutor General of the SPP Tong Jianming, justices from the Supreme Court of Singapore, and Singapore's Ambassador to China Peter Tan attended the meeting.
