SPP prosecutor general visits Jordan

Ying Yong, Prosecutor General of the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) of the People's Republic of China led a delegation to visit Jordan from Oct 24 to 26 (local time), at the invitation of Mohammad Ghazo, Chief of the Supreme Judicial Council and President of the Court of Cassation (Supreme Court) of Jordan. 

During the visit, Ying had a friendly exchange with Tawfiq Kreishan, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Local Administration of Jordan, and held separate work meetings with Ghazo, Jordanian Attorney General Youssef Dhiabat, and Minister of Justice Ahmed Ziadat. 

The SPP of China and the Attorney General's Office of Jordan signed a draft memorandum of understanding on cooperation.

During the exchange and talks with Kreishan and other senior Jordanian officials, Ying highlighted the importance of Jordan in the Middle East and the traditional friendship between China and Jordan. He mentioned that in recent years, under the strategic guidance of President Xi Jinping and King Abdullah II, political mutual trust between the two sides has been constantly enhanced, and practical cooperation has steadily advanced.

Ying expressed the willingness of Chinese procuratorial organs to collaborate with their Jordanian counterparts in implementing the consensus reached by the two heads of state, and in promoting the China-Jordan strategic partnership.

Kreishan warmly welcomed the arrival of the Chinese delegation, emphasizing that Jordan attaches great importance to developing friendly relations with China. He expressed his hope to strengthen exchanges with Chinese judicial and procuratorial organs, and further enhance cooperation in various fields.

During separate meetings with Ghazo, Dhiabat, and Ziadat, Ying introduced China's progress in the rule of law development, its judicial system and procuratorial work. He noted that law-based governance is a constitutional principle and a fundamental governance strategy in China, and the country has accelerated the building of a law-based country, government, and society.

Ying said China places great importance on the development of its judicial system and continuously carries out reforms, to ensure strict and impartial justice and safeguard social fairness and justice. Chinese procuratorial organs serve as the country's legal supervision bodies that ensure the unified and correct implementation of the nation's laws, and play a crucial role in promoting judicial fairness, he added.

He emphasized that exchanges and cooperation in the fields of the rule of law and justice is an important aspect of the China-Jordan strategic partnership. He added that the SPP of China is willing to enhance exchanges and cooperation with Jordan's judicial and procuratorial authorities in such areas as combating transnational crimes, conducting judicial cooperation in criminal matters, deepening high-level visits, and exchanging personnel for professional training, under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state.

These efforts will be conducive to sharing and mutual learning of successful experiences in rule of law development and the promotion of judicial fairness between the two countries, advancing their judicial work and delivering more benefits to the two countries and two peoples, according to Ying.

Ghazo, Dhiabat and Ziadat commended China's advancements in the development of the rule of law and its judicial and procuratorial endeavors. They applauded the initiatives and accomplishments of Chinese judicial organs in broadening the application of non-custodial coercive measures, implementing community corrections, and advancing information-based development. They also expressed their hope to enhance communication and mutual learning with China's judicial and procuratorial bodies, engage in practical cooperation, and contribute to consolidating and deepening the friendly relations between the two countries.

Chen Yong, Lin Yiying, and Wang Shou'an, who are Prosecutor Generals of the People's Procuratorates of Shanghai Municipality, Zhejiang Province, and Hubei Province, as well as Chinese Ambassador to Jordan Chen Chuandong, were present at the events.
