Procuratorial departments handle 823,000 ecological and environmental litigation cases

Chinese procuratorial departments handled 823,000 litigation cases related to ecology and the environment from 2018 to this June, according to Ying Yong, Prosecutor General of the Supreme People's Procuratorate and China's Chief Grand Prosecutor.

China has made great achievements in the building of ecological civilization and achieved steady progress in the prosecution of litigation cases associated with the ecological environment and natural resource conservation, said Ying Yong, in a special report at the sixth session of the Standing Committee of the 14th National People's Congress (NPC) in Beijing on October 21.

Ying noted that the procuratorial departments at all levels in China have given priority to the work of ecological civilization and natural resource conservation, served the overall interests of the country, followed the people-centered approach, shouldered their responsibilities in the development of the rule of law, made full use of their functions in handling criminal, civil, administrative and public-interest litigation, strengthened the coordination and interaction with other competent departments, reinforced judicial protection on ecological civilization, and pushed for the building of a beautiful China through the rule of law.
