From Sept 26th to 28th, at the invitation of the Hungarian Prosecutor's Office, Tong Jianming, Deputy Secretary of the Party Leadership Group and First Deputy Prosecutor General of the Supreme People's Procuratorate of China, led a delegation to Hungary.
Tong held talks with Hungary's Chief Public Prosecutor Péter Polt, and visited the Hungarian National Institute of Criminology and the Central Investigative Prosecution Office for research and exchanges.
Polt extended a warm welcome to the delegation and acknowledged the long-standing friendship between Hungary and China. He emphasized that since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1949, the two countries have enjoyed comprehensive development in their friendly relations, with strengthened cooperation in various fields. He said the exchange and cooperation between the procuratorial organs of China and Hungary have been close and fruitful in recent years, and this visit is expected to contribute to mutual understanding and further cooperation between the two sides in law enforcement and justice.
He then provided an overview of the structure, organization, and functions of the Hungarian procuratorial organs, emphasizing that they play a crucial role in legal oversight and hold a prominent position within the country's governance. They continuously adapt their power and approach to meet the evolving needs of society, he added.
Tong expressed his appreciation for the invitation and highlighted the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Hungary and the continuous strengthening of friendly cooperation in the judicial field. He also mentioned that in 1995, the governments of China and Hungary signed the Treaty on Judicial Assistance in Civil and Commercial Matters, while in 2004 the supreme procuratorates of both countries signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation, saying that these agreements have laid a solid foundation for exchange and collaboration between the procuratorial organs of the two countries.
Tong emphasized the Chinese procuratorial organs' willingness to collaborate with their Hungarian counterparts in areas such as training procuratorial personnel and mutual legal assistance in criminal justice. He also provided an overview of recent judicial reforms in China.
They also held in-depth discussions regarding future directions and areas of professional cooperation in law between the two countries.
Gong Tao, China's Ambassador to Hungary, was present at the meeting.
Prior to the visit, Tong attended the Executive Committee meeting, Annual Conference, and General Assembly of the International Association of Prosecutors in London, the United Kingdom. Li Yongjun, Chief Prosecutor of the People's Procuratorate of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, and Wang Guanghui, Chief Prosecutor of the People's Procuratorate of Yunnan Province, participated in the visits and meetings.
