The Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) and the Ministry of Justice (MOJ) held a press conference on July 5, to review the legal supervision of community corrections by procuratorial organs and the educational management of community corrections by judicial administrative organs over the past three years. They also released the third batch of typical cases regarding legal supervision of community corrections.
The Community Corrections Law of the People's Republic of China was implemented on July 1, 2020, becoming the first legislation in the country to regulate community correction work.
The procuratorial organs across the country have comprehensively implemented Xi Jinping Thought on the Rule of Law and fulfilled their legal supervision functions in community corrections in accordance with the law, according to Hou Yahui, Director of the Fifth Procuratorial Department of the SPP. They adhered to implementing the requirement of "handling each case with high quality and efficiency" in every aspect of their community correction legal supervision work, leading to some positive outcomes, Hou said.
In the past three years, procuratorial organs have improved exploration and practice in legal supervision over community correction. They have handled each case efficiently and effectively, strengthened supervision intensity, and improved the level of standardized supervision. They have conducted legal supervision over community correction related to marine and fishing activities, provided equal protection to various market entities, and upheld the legitimate rights and interests of community correction subjects. They have also conducted community correction inspection pilot projects in a lawful and orderly manner, exploring the use of big data. Through collaboration and professional skill enhancement, they have also promoted innovation in the work.
"Judicial administrative organs nationwide have earnestly implemented major plans of the CPC Central Committee, actively fulfilled their responsibilities and implemented effective measures to promote the Community Corrections Law," said Liu Ye, Deputy Director of the Community Correction Administration Bureau of the MOJ. He highlighted improvements in leadership and management mechanism, stronger law enforcement, and increased participation of social forces.
The conference also featured the release of the third batch of typical cases for legal supervision over community correction.
