Ying Yong meets with Prosecutor General of Laos

Ying and Khotphouthone sign a new Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation between the procuratorial organs of both countries.

Ying Yong, Prosecutor General of the Supreme People's Procuratorate of China, received a delegation headed by Xaysana Khotphouthone, Prosecutor General of the Supreme People's Procuratorate of Laos, in Beijing on June 27.

Ying extended a warm welcome to the visitors and said that China and Laos as socialist states are friendly neighbors. He added that over the past 60 years of diplomatic relations, the two countries have trusted and assisted each other, forging a lasting and ever-renewing bilateral relationship. Ying went on to say that in recent years the leaders of both countries have reached important consensuses, providing a guideline for deepening cooperation in various fields, including law enforcement and judicial cooperation.

Ying briefed Khotphouthone on the recent advancements in China's procuratorial work since the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC). He said that the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core has attached great importance to the rule of law and the development of procuratorial work. The Supreme People's Procuratorate of China actively implements the guiding principles of the 20th CPC National Congress and the Opinions of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China on Strengthening the Legal Supervision Work of Procuratorates in the New Era, and is dedicated to fulfilling its legal role, he added.

The Supreme People's Procuratorate of China continuously promotes judicial system reform and procuratorial reform, and modernizes the procuratorial system, according to Ying.

Ying emphasized the importance of Communist Party leadership and the socialist system in the China-Laos relationship, which serves as the political foundation for cooperation between their procuratorial organs. He said that Chinese procuratorial organs are willing to collaborate with their Lao counterparts in implementing the important consensus reached by the two countries’ leaders and strengthening political mutual trust. Their goal is to deepen friendly cooperation and achieve further progress in building a shared future for both countries, ultimately benefiting their respective peoples.

Khotphouthone thanked Ying for the warm meeting and stated that the CPC and the Chinese government have always provided selfless assistance and support to Laos. He said that the Lao prosecution organs have maintained close exchanges and cooperation with their Chinese counterparts for a long time, with fruitful results achieved.

Khotphouthone expressed willingness to enhance practical cooperation with Chinese procuratorial organs, including prosecutor training and exchange visits, to learn from their experiences and contribute to long-term friendly cooperation between Laos and China.

Following the meeting, Ying and Khotphouthone signed a new Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation between the procuratorial organs of both countries.

Tong Jianming, First Deputy Prosecutor General of the Supreme People's Procuratorate of China, and Bountham Bounthavy, Deputy Prosecutor General of the Supreme People's Procuratorate of Laos, attended the meeting.
